Jonathan Chang - Director

     Mr. Chang is currently in his 14th year of teaching at Glen A. Wilson High School.  His teaching responsibilities include overseeing the Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Drumline, Chamber Music, and Color Guard. He is also the Visual & Performing Arts Department Chair and a member of the school’s Academic Senate.  Previous teaching assignments include Claremont High School , El Roble Intermediate School, Upland Jr. High School , California High School, and South Whittier Intermediate School.  Mr. Chang received his Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of Southern California and his private instructors included Tommy Johnson and Terry Cravens. He received his Masters in Education from Azusa Pacific University.


      Mr. Chang’s involvement in the drum corps activity began marching baritone with the Blue Knights from Denver , Colorado.  He eventually ended up playing in the Magic Kingdom Korps, a 12-piece drum corps that used to perform at Disneyland , for six years in the 90s.  Mr. Chang has worked as a brass technician for the Pacific Crest Drum & Bugle Corps based out of Diamond Bar, the Troopers from Casper, Wyoming and the Blue Knights.


     Outside of school and drum corps, Mr. Chang is active adjudicator for parade, field, and concert festivals for the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association as well as being a time and penalty judge for the Winter Guard Association of Southern California.  Mr. Chang currently lives in Chino with his wife Nina (who also teaches Dance PE at Wilson and helps out with the Color Guard), daughter Ella, son Ethan, and their dog Pepper.

Pete Sapadin - Percussion Caption Head & Battery Arranger

    Pete Sapadin is a marching percussion specialist based in Southern California who excels at teaching his students the skills necessary to perform at the highest levels in the marching activity. Mr. Sapadin started his marching percussion career as a member of the 1987 Velvet Knights and then went on to become a member of the Concord Blue Devils in 1989 & 1990, and the Cadets of Bergen County in 1991. Mr. Sapadin was invited back to teach the Velvet Knights under Tom Float in 1992 and later took the reins as the Percussion Caption Head / Arranger for the Casper, Wyoming Troopers 2002-2004, and the Yamato Drum & Bugle Corps in 2005.  Under the RWMA, this is Pete Sapadin's first year as percussion instructor.

    With several years of experience teaching and performing professionally in various ensembles from Anaheim, CA, Orlando, FL, NYC & Tokyo, Mr. Sapadin is able to bring 'real world' experience to his students and he does so with his own unique and engaging style. Pete Sapadin teaches percussion at multiple high schools, middle schools and as part of the Riverside Community College Independent World Class percussion staff. He continues to demonstrate his ability to inspire, motivate and instruct his students to truly become the best in the world. Mr. Sapadin is a highly sought after clinician and proud to be a Vic Firth Education Artist, a Pearl Education Artist, and a Remo Education Artist.

Peter Gomez- Color Guard Caption Head, Visual Coordinator & Drill Writer

     Peter Gomez is currently in his third year of teaching in the Wilson Staff.  He is an alumni of Independence High School, and went on to graduate from San Jose State University.  Peter also performed in the color guard of the Blue Devils Concord and the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corp.  These drum corps were world class championships when he participated.  Peter's current teaching assignments include Chino, Upland, and Nogales along with Wilson.  Additionally, he is the proud CEO and owner of ColorGuardUsa.com.  Peter's responsibilities with the RWMA include being the head designer for the Wilson Color Guard.

Lacey Jung - Percussion Instructor

    Lacey has spent eight years instructing Wilson High School Students and resided in Hacienda Heights. Lacey is a graduate of Wilson High School (Class of 2001) and graduated Cum Laude from Cal State Fullerton 2005 with a BA in Liberal Studies and Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.  Lacey's past achievements include being in band for four years, four years in Wind Ensemble, four years in Drumline, and three years in council (1 year as ASB Historian, 1 year in Publicity, and 2 years as Percussion Captain) Lacey currently is in her  2nd year of teaching at Aldama Elementary in Los Angeles, CA.  Lacey's responsibilities include overseeing Glen A Wilson Drumline (the Pit Section).

Joshua Scrivens - Percussion Instructor

    Joshua Scrivens is in his first year of instruction at Glen A. Wilson High School.  He has seven years of percussion experience.  Josh is a 2010 graduate of Glen A. Wilson High School.  Currently, Josh attends Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.  He has marched in the percussion indoor group: Full Force.  Over the past summer he was a snare in Velvet Knights Drum and Bugle Corps.  Josh plans to march in the drum corps group Blue Devils.  As part of the RWMA staff, he plans to be working with the drumline for a very long time.  Josh's responsibilities include instructing the drumline.

Ken Mengel - Wind and Marching Instructor

    This is Ken’s 4th year as an instructor. He came to us from Granada Hills High School where he was the Assistant Band Director there for 10 years. During his time there he taught and arranged music for the Marching Band, taught one of the concert ensembles, one of the Jazz bands, was the Director of the String Program and Chamber Music program, as well as helped create and run the Music Academy there. Over the past 10 years his bands have accumulated many awards and accolades including over a dozen SCSBOA Marching Band Sweepstake awards, as well as many Superior ratings at Concert and Chamber music festivals throughout Southern California. He graduated from Cal State University Northridge and holds a degree in Music Performance as well as a Teaching Credential in Music from Northridge as well. His Trombone teachers include Bill Booth, Roy Main, and Alex Iles.

    Currently he works as a professional trombone player and music copyist. His professional playing experience includes working at Disneyland in bands such as the Magic Kingdom Korps and Holiday Pep Band, playing at the Crystal Cathedral church in Garden Grove, doing musicals, and playing in such Orchestras such as Antelope Valley Symphony, Torrance Symphony, Asian American Symphony, and the Cypress Pops Orchestra. He also will periodically do studio work and has recorded with rap producer Dr. Dre on some of his projects. As a Music Copyist, he has worked with companies such as Disney, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, Universal Studios Japan, Hong Kong Disneyland as well as some DVD and television projects.

    Ken is excited to be working with Mr. Chang and the students here at Wilson. He hopes to bring some of his knowledge and experience to help further the current excellence and success that Wilson High School Band has attained for so many years.

Wendy Lomeli- Color Guard Instructor

    Wendy Lomeli is a graduate of Chino High School, where she preformed for four years in the color guard, for the 77th Cavalry Marching Unit.  In 2005, she was part of the team that earned bronze at Winter Guard International, and gold at SCSBOA.  The year after, Wendy's team went back to WGI to reclaim Bronze Medal.  Her experience with color guard includes four years of performance and five years of teaching in the Royal Wilson Marching Alliance.  Wendy's responsibilities include choreographing the routines of the Wilson Color Guard.
